Good Morning Everyone,

It’s another chilly, gray day here in Northwest Arkansas.  I’m not sure, but I think I’ve even seen a few flurries flying around.  But, I got most of my part of the Christmas decorating done, and now I’m sitting here because the Lord put something on my heart.  It’s a good day to be home and off work.  Lizzie was home with me the last couple of days cause she wasn’t feeling too good, but she’s back to school today.  So, it’s good to be sitting here penning a message based on a scripture and an old Carman song that I believe will have us shouting and singing “I’ve been redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb!”

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:” – Galatians 3:13 (KJV)

And while you’re reading this message I thought it would be a good idea to include the song that immediately came to mind as I read this scripture from King James Bible Online.

As Carman introduces this song he opens by saying that the Bible say let the redeemed of the Lord say so,  and it actually does say that in Psalm 207:2 (KJV). I think in order for us to get to the place where we can shout, and then follow this up by singing “I Love Jesus” we need to know what it is we’ve been redeemed from and who and what we have been redeemed by.

The first part of what we have been redeemed from is listed here in our scripture.  We have been redeemed from the curse of the law.  Did you know that even now today there is a curse upon every one that is not a whosoever that’s called upon the name of the Lord?  That curse, my friends, is that all who have never accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are currently living under a death sentence.  If someone dies right this moment having rejected Jesus Christ with their last and final breath…they will spend the rest of eternity separated from God…and they will experience the excruciating curse of never being able to die.  They will be in a place with such horror and torment that they will wish to die…they will want to die, but just like believers will receive a glorified body so that we’ll be able to stand in the presence of God…those who rejected Jesus will also receive new bodies that will never die and will live for all of eternity in a place that’s so terrible that they will want to die…but the can’t.  They will live for all of eternity wanting to die…but they too will live for all of eternity.  If you think you’re cursed now…if you reject Jesus believe me…it’s going to get worse.

The second part of what we have been redeemed by is found, of course, in this silly song that y’all will probably be singing for the rest of the day.  You’re welcome!  However, it’s good to have these words running through your mind and getting them in your heart no matter how silly the song may sound.  The words I’m referring to, of course, are “I’ve been redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb.”.  What can wash a way our sin, our curse, our sickness, our diseases…yep another song that I hope will stick in your mind today (you’re welcome again) Nothing But The Blood of Jesus.  It’s the blood of Jesus that has redeemed us.

In the Old Testament (and even while Jesus was walking the earth during His earthly ministry) the only way to be redeemed from a curse was to find an innocent lamb and shed it’s blood on the day of atonement.  The problem is, if the law broken was bad enough, not even the shed blood of an innocent lamb was good enough to spare the death of the priest that brought the offering into the temple.  If you think it’s difficult being a priest or pastor now…be glad you weren’t one during the Old Testament days…it could’ve been way worse!

So…in order to redeem us from our sin and our lawlessness there had to be a sacrifice that was perfect, spotless, and blameless enough to wash away the sin and curse of all of humanity…and that’s where we find the answer to our last part.

The final part of who we have been redeemed by is that we have been redeemed by Jesus Christ.  It’s His blood that was shed upon Calvary that allows for us to be spotless and blameless before God today.  It’s His blood that cleanses us as white as snow, and makes it as though we have never sinned.  It’s His blood that purchased our punishment, and gave us His righteousness that we could be adopted by the Father as His son’s and daughter’s.  It’s Jesus that made and became the perfect sacrifice so that everyone that would call upon the name of the Lord (even the thief next to Him) would be saved not just from death, not just from hell, not just from the grave, but from the very curse that was upon us since the day we were born.

As we know it took the disobedience of one man for all of us to be guilty of breaking God’s laws, and therefore sentenced to eternity in hell.  It was also, therefore, the obedience of One Man that made us all innocent in the eyes of God and redeemed us from this death sentence and giving us life here and for all of eternity.

The final question is this…Are you one of the redeemed of the Lord?   If you aren’t that’s an easy fix.  All you need to do is get alone somewhere with God, and you don’t have to say some fancy prayer.  All you have to do is really mean business with Him, and call upon Jesus to be your Lord and Savior.  The thief on the cross next to Jesus didn’t say some version of the “sinner’s prayer” he just simply say “Lord, remember me”…and that’s all you need to do right now to make sure you are one of the redeemed of the Lord.

And then, once you are you can then to do like the rest of us…and say so!  For those of you who are the redeemed of the Lord…don’t forget to say so once in a while, Amen!?!
