Messages, Teaching Series

Message Scripture:

‘As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” – 1 Peter 4:10 (KJV)

Greetings Christlike Ministries NWA Family!

I was all set to start a teaching series titled “Finding Your Way Back To God”, but I think that series is going to be for Pastor B’s Blog, and God wants us to get into a six message teaching series simply titled “Potential”, and from what I see this is going to be a pretty exciting series.  I believe we’re all going to like it, and get something from it (even me).

So, let’s believe God for ears to hear and hearts that will be receptive and respond to what the Lord is speaking.  Believe with me, also for fingers that are as that of a pen of a ready writer…writing only of the oracles of God from the supernatural ability that’s supplied by the Holy Ghost.

It’s always a joy to bring the Word of God, and I’m always excited when God draws me to a series of messages for us.  I haven’t written any teaching series messages in quite a while, and as I mentioned a moment ago…the “Finding Your Way Back To God” series is going to be moving to the brand new Pastor B’s Blog, but this series is simply titled “Potential”.  There are many that wonder and ask about how it is that they are supposed to serve God, and I honestly believe that we make ministry far too complicated.  Most when they feel like God’s calling them to ministry they think standing behind a podium preaching to a congregation.  However, as we are going to learn from today’s message God has given us all gifts that are unique only to us, and as the feature photo of this message says…the talents we have are God’s gifts to us…and how we use them is our gift back to God.  Amen!?!

Our gifts are given to us by God. Talents are what we have that we can give back to Him.

Do you know that God has turned my ability to write into a world-wide ministry that has been read in nearly 200 nations?  Like many of you, I knew that God was calling me to serve Him, and like many of you I thought that meant standing in front of a church preaching to a congregation.  However, what I had in mind and what God had in mind were two different things until a man of God one day prophesied that I would use my ability to write to glorify God.  Now, this was before the social network explosion that this prophetic word of knowledge was spoken to me, but it took a decade before I figured out he wasn’t talking about writing magazines or books or devotionals…and now that I’ve discovered my gift and given it back to God…He has indeed turned what I’m doing into a global ministry.  Christlike Ministries NWA exists because I learned that my ability to write was God’s gift to me, and since starting this blog I’ve come to understand that my obedience in writing this blog and every message that I pen in it is my gift back to God.

Each person’s gifts and talents are unique from other people’s. What we shouldn’t do is try to compare them. Don’t focus on what you don’t have that others do, focus on the gifts and talents God has given you.

I remember when I realized that God was calling me to use my ability to write for His glory.  I did what anyone else would do.  I began looking at other blogs, magazines, and publications to find myself arguing with God saying things like:  “Lord, none of what I’ve written looks like this.”, and God said back to me “I’m not calling you to write like anyone else…I’m calling you to write like you.”.  You see, another thing that can discourage us is trying to compare ourselves to other people.  Another thing God spoke to me relating to this reminding me that He didn’t call me to be like Charles Stanley or TD Jakes or Pastor Cass Hill or anyone else…He called me to be who He wants me to be…and who He wants me to be is Pastor Bryan Kizer of Christlike Ministries NWA.

You see, God doesn’t want us to be like anyone else, but who He wants us to be.  He has unique gifts for you just like He did for me.  The gift itself isn’t unique.  Having the ability to write or play an instrument or paint or sculpt or whatever gift you have…the gift itself isn’t unique…but how God wants you to use the gift He gave you is unique.  It’s unique and specific for you, for your calling, for your destiny, and for your purpose.

The other part to this is don’t covet gifts you don’t have…as my former pastor and father in the faith use to say…learn to bloom where your planted.  In other words, don’t desire to have someone else’s gift because God has given that particular gift to that person to reach people that person is supposed to reach.  The gifts, talents, and abilities that person has are necessary for Him to fulfill his calling and destiny…and the gifts, talents and abilities you have are specific for you to fulfill yours.

I had learned early on when I started this ministry that my specific calling even though I’m a pastor is not a pulpit ministry…my pulpit is social media.  I don’t have a preaching or speaking anointing, and going back to my previous point of not coveting gifts we don’t have…I’m actually okay with not having a speaking anointing.  However, as most of you know…I kind of write my messages as though I was speaking.  My congregation is made up of followers all over the globe, and throughout the various social network sites Christlike Ministries NWA is found on (see . I have a friend of mine that’s also called to be a pastor that understand his calling is to minister to people in one on one settings…he’s also the worship leader after spending decades in the secular music scene.  The thing is, I have learned that my gift is for me, and so wishing I had TD Jakes preaching anointing is really me saying that I don’t approve of the gift that God gave me, and I don’t know about anyone else…but I don’t want to act in any way like I disapprove of what God’s doing in, with, or through my life!

By embracing not only the call of God on my life, but the gift that He gave me to write I’ve become the pastor and founder of a world-wide ministry.  I’ll be honest enough to tell you that if you read the messages I wrote in year one they’re not as easy to read, but as I began writing God has helped me to become the writer I’ve always hoped I could be.  Frankly, if I’m really being honest and transparent with you…some times I’ll go back to re-read something I’ve written by inspiration of the Holy Ghost…and I’m amazed.  I have actually finished reading my own posts in disbelief that I could write something so powerful…but that’s what happens when you surrender your God-given gifts back to God…He turns them into something that you really couldn’t have even imagined.  You see, when you recognize that God’s given you a talent (in my case it’s writing), and you give that gift back to God…He helps you to develop it.  God has helped me to become a better writer, He’s even helped me choose the themes, and that’s what giving your gift back to God is all about.  Everything I have done and do with Christlike Ministries NWA has been 100% God…the only thing I’ve ever done is type.  I can’t even brag about my ability to type because God gave me the ability to type, and has helped me to become better at typing.  God has truly taught me everything, and that means there’s nothing for me to boast or brag about…because it’s all God’s workmanship.

You are reading the results of my embracing the gift God gave me.  Don’t ever think that you are worthless, and have nothing to offer.  There is probably something that you really love and enjoy doing…it may well be that is the gift or talent God gave you.  I don’t know what that is…maybe you write poetry, maybe you like painting, maybe you love dancing, maybe you can play a musical instrument, maybe you have no problem speaking in front of large groups, maybe your good with administrative things, maybe you are really strong in prayer, maybe you have a heart for children or youth or infants and would like to help out in children’s ministry, maybe you have always had Africa on your heart and don’t know why, or maybe your blessed with the ability to sing.  There are even tests online to help you discover your spiritual gifts…I don’t really endorse a specific one, but I know that they are handy in helping you to identify the things God has placed inside of you.

Ask God to revel to you what He’s gifted you.  As He shows you the gifts and talents He’s given you…ask Him to help you use them for His glory.  Once you start using your talents for His glory…continue to ask Him to help you and give Him the glory for giving you the gifts and talents and abilities you have…and He will.  I know because He’s done it in my life, and I know that He’s no respecter of person.  So, what God has done in, with, and through my life He can and will do through yours too.

Discover your talents, and start to figure out how you can use them for God and for His glory.

Let’s Pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending the Lord Jesus to live and die for me and thank You for bringing me into Your family because I have trusted Jesus as my Savior. Thank You that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and that You have sent Him to indwell my heart and to lead and guide me into all truth. I pray that You would take my life and use every part of me to Your praise and glory.

Father I know that the bible tells us that we all receive a gift from You – a spiritual gift and I understand that this is very special and different from my own natural talents or my own acquired abilities. Lord, I don’t really know what is the difference between the true spiritual gift given to me by the Holy Spirit when I was born from above, and what are my own natural talents and abilities.

Lord I pray that You would use all that I am – my own abilities and my talents as well as the spiritual gift or gifts that You, in Your grace, have seen fit to bestow on me, but I also pray that You would open my understanding to the special spiritual gift that You have bestowed on me – by Your grace.

Show me I pray, what is the special spiritual gift that You have given me to use to the benefit of the body of Christ – and I ask that You would make it truly known to me and that You would use it to encourage and edify my brothers and sisters in Christ to Your praise and glory, in Jesus name I pray. Amen

Going Deeper:

Just for this series and maybe this message I’m going to give you some thing to study or do on your own.  So, what exactly do I hope you’ll do with this message?  This…

  • Write down one gift or talent you think God has given you.
  • Then, write down one way you can use that gift or talent for God.

I think that’s simple enough, isn’t it?  Write down the things you like to do.  Even if it’s silly like I enjoy playing softball, but how many of you know that we can (and should) do all things to the glory of God.  I play softball in a church league. I found out that I’m pretty good at writing, and God turned that ability into a ministry that’s reached hundreds of people around the world. Don’t ever think or say that your gift is too silly for God to use…and always remember that God doesn’t call the qualified…He qualifies the called.

In Closing:

I hope this series of messages will help us discover and begin to learn about the gifts, talents, and abilities that God has given to each of us.  Remember that it’s God that gives the gifts so it’s also God that gets to decide where and how we fit into the Body of Christ.  Every single one of us has a good given gift, talent, or ability that He expects us to surrender to Him so that He can help us to grow and used those gifts or talents or abilities for His glory and to advance the Kingdom of God in the earth until the trumpet sounds, Amen!

Well, thank you so much for joining me for the first of six messages in this “Potential” teaching series.  I am going to leave the pace of this series up to the Lord, but I believe that this is a right now series for so many.  I’ve seen so many asking about what they’re supposed to do for God, and how they find out what they’re supposed to be doing for God…and now God’s lead me to this entire series to hopefully help answer some of those questions.

Thank you as always for being a part of the Christlike Ministries NWA Family, and most of all for your prayers, patience, and support.  I love and appreciate every one of you that’s become a part of the CLMNWA Family.

Have a blessed day in the Lord!

Blessings & Grace;
Bryan J. Kizer – Pastor
