1John-2.1.2

Scripture Of The Day:  1 John 2:1-2 (NASB)

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2 (NASB)

Jesus Almighty Advocate

Happy Saturday Everyone!

I hope y’all are enjoying the new format of the Scripture of the Day that has now officially become a daily devotional. I hope you enjoy reading what has become something I look forward to writing.  I’m also looking forward to getting into the first teaching series of 2015.

Until we get into that, however, let’s take a look at the Christlike Ministries NWA Daily Devotional for Saturday January 24, 2015, and our Scripture of the Day.

I’ve watched a lot of shows with lawyers in them because I like a lot of the crime drama shows. There are lots with defense attorneys that are pretty good at proving their client’s innocence, but none of them are as good an Advocate as Jesus the Almighty Advocate!

Jesus isn’t just our Defense Attorney, Jesus isn’t just our Advocate, but Jesus has done something that we always see in those shows, but never works…until Jesus.

In many of those crime drama shows there is inevitably going to be someone who tries to cover up for the person who is actually guilty of the crime.  Unfortunately, the person trying to cover up for the guilty is always found out, and the guilty person is prosecuted.

In 2 Corinthians 5:21 we read that Jesus became our sin so that we could become His righteousness.  This is what makes Jesus the Almighty Advocate because not only is Jesus our Advocate, but He became the very thing that made us guilty so that we could be innocent.

If we sin not only do we have someone who stands up to say that we’re innocent…He stands up to say we’re innocent because He has already pled guilty and paid the punishment for our sin.  We are found innocent of all charges because He took our charges and paid the penalty for them.

John took great care to talk about Jesus as our Advocate and that if we would confess our sins that He would be faithful and just to forgive us of ALL unrighteousness. Paul wrote that Jesus became sin, and took the punishment for our sins so that we could receive His righteousness.

So, you see, friends…Jesus didn’t just secure our innocence He paid for our innocence with His own life.  That’s what makes Jesus the Almighty Advocate!

Let’s Pray:

Jesus, how can we thank You for all that You did when You went to the Cross for us. Lord, we give You all the glory, honor, and praise. You are our Almighty Advocate, and we thank You taking our place so that we could have Yours. May we be the Ambassadors for You that You’ve called us to be. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen & Amen

In Closing:

If you were to die today would Jesus be your Advocate or would your Judge?  If you die without confessing Him as Lord and Savior then I can tell you that you will face Him as your Judge.  Jesus is either going to sentence you to an eternity separated from Him or He’s going to welcome you into eternity in Heaven with Him.

If you don’t know for sure how you would stand before Him, or if you’ve never become a whosoever that’s called upon the name of the Lord to be saved…you can do so now.

You must believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that what Jesus did on the Cross was for you.  If you need help…here is a sample prayer that can help you become that whosoever that’s called upon the name of the Lord.

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”

Friends, if you said that prayer I would like to let you know that Jesus is now your Almighty Advocate too. If you need help getting started get to a good, solid Bible believing, teaching, and living church.  If you need help getting a Bible for the first time ever…Christlike Ministries NWA has the ability to get you a copy of the Recovery Version New Testament Bible.
