The Real Black Friday

 Black Friday Eternal Savings

Message Scripture:  John 19:28-30 (NKJV)

(28)  After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” (29) Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. (30) So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. — John 19:28-30 (NKJV)

Happy Thanksgiving Eve Christlike Ministries NWA Family,

I am writing to let you know this is going to be the final message until Saturday or Sunday.  I was in the midst of the 7 Days of Thanksgiving series, and I just felt like the Lord said: “it’s time for a break”.  But, I think this is His last message to us before we resume after Thanksgiving.  I’m not sure what we’re going to get into (maybe we’ll finish the Thanksgiving series afterwards), but for now this is the final message of the week.

I’m completely trusting the Lord with this message.  I ask y’all to believe with me that whatever the Lord’s about to speak to us through this message will be spoken with clarity, boldness, and that it will be a right now, on time message.  I’m also believing the Holy Ghost for utterance, and for ears to hear and hearts that will be receptive and respond to what the Lord is about to speak to us through this message on this night.

So, let’s see what God’s wanting to say about…

The Real Black Friday:

I’ll have you know that I was just minding my business getting set to re-read a message I’d written.  I looked over at my Facebook Fan Page widget, saw my profile picture, and as soon as I looked I knew the Lord wanted to speak on it.  Naturally, as I was writing the introduction I had yet another song come to mind, and so I’ll add the song in so that you’ll have something to listen to, and I think I know just the song and video that will be the perfect accompaniment to this message.

I can still remember the days when Black Friday was just the Friday after Thanksgiving, and that it started at midnight and then the sales were over by 6am.   I grew up where there was kind of outdoor mall, and I remember seeing on the news people with tents and hot soup and stuff camping outside and lines as far as the eye could see waiting to get into the stores for the Black Friday deals so they would be able to have the cool Christmas gifts of the year at unbelievably low prices…before everyone else had to pay retail price or they were out of whatever it was.

I remember honestly thinking that it was sad that so many people would get up in the middle of the night.  Now, I lived in Wisconsin so some times it would be snowing.  Some times it would be near or below zero, and yet there would be people faithfully camped out every year to get the sale items before they sold out.  I mean if you got to the stores at 6am there weren’t any second chance sales…that was it…you were too late.

I also remember thinking what a shame it is that Black Friday was more celebrated than Good Friday…and here we are many years later with me getting ready to pen a message that is probably going to be full of more of my own personal opinions than any message the Lord has allowed me to write…but I can’t sit through another Black Friday without talking about the significance of The Real Black Friday.

After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. — John 19:28-30 (NKJV)

I know I already posted this, but I think it’s worth repeating, and I also think it underscores what I’m about to say.  When Jesus said: “It is Finished!” I wonder if we really understand the significance of what happened that day.  I wonder if we understand that the newest version of PlayStation is NOTHING compared to the value of the Blood that was shed that day.  I wonder if we understand that all of the deals are NOTHING compared to the deal that Jesus secured for us by His death on the Cross.  I wonder if we understand that there is absolutely positively NOTHING that’s more valuable then the shed Blood and broken Body of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I wonder that because if we really understood just how significant Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection was I think we’d approach Good Friday with the same passion we approach Black Friday. I wonder that because if we understood that real value to Jesus isn’t what we’re going to find on the shelves or in the aisles at Walmart…no…real value to Jesus was YOUR SOUL AND MINE, and it took Jesus’ life to secure the greatest deal of all…eternal life with Him.

Let’s remember that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and that all of us…every last on of us deserve what Jesus had to go through to place us in right-standing with God and to make sure that His Home would also be our eternal home…but we celebrate Black Friday every year like we’re about to get the deals of the century.

Pardon me folks, be we received the deal of a life time because of the Cross.  I’m not saying that this Black Friday thing is wrong, but what I am saying is that we need to get our eyes off the here and now and remind ourselves that there is an eternal perspective.  It’s okay to want to get good deals and want to give good gifts and great prices…but let’s not forget that there was a Friday that gave us a greater and more valuable gift then the one we’re going to see on the shelves at Walmart.

I think that we, as the Body of Christ ought to look at Good Friday with the same passion as Christmas shoppers look at Black Friday. I think we as Christians ought to realize that the greatest and most expensive gift isn’t always the one you get the for the cheapest price…but it’s the one that holds that priceless price tag.  Jesus is the most expensive yet priceless Gift the world has ever known…and it’s the ONLY Gift that keeps giving after we receive Him.

Today, the Black Friday deals seem to start after Halloween.  I wonder what the world would be like if we as Christians would start celebrating Good Friday as soon as Ash Wednesday or St. Patrick’s Day was over.

I don’t know about anyone else…but I believe the greatest deal the world ever receive isn’t whatever you’re going to find in the month-long Black Friday sales…but on the day Jesus gave up the ghost and said: “It Is Finished!”

Let’s Pray:

Father God, thank You for the blessings You have bestowed upon us throughout the year.  I pray for those who are hurting, Father God, and I know of many who have lost family, friends, and loved ones this year.  I pray especially for those who lost loved ones that will be lost for eternity as they rejected Your Son with their last breath. I pray for those who need You to touch their lives in some way whether it be healing, financial, or otherwise.  I pray, Lord God that You touch their lives in the way that they need You to.  I pray most of all, Lord God, that You would give us all more of an eternal mindset as we draw nearer to the day the trumpet sounds. I pray for those who don’t know You yet…that You would lead them to someone they will listen to and allow them to lead them into a relationship with You. I pray for each and every member of the Christlike Ministries NWA Family that they would be able to enjoy their time with their family, friends, and loved ones.  That You’d bless every single dish on every single table and bless each pair of hands that made each dish…that every meal would be blessed, sanctified, and nourishment to our physical bodies.  I pray for the members of the Armed Forces spread all over the world protecting and defending our ability to sit around our tables free from the worry of war. I pray that You would be blessed, praised, and glorified this year.  I pray for the firefighters and police officers that will be out that none of them would be lost, that all of them would return home, and that You would protect those who protect and keep us safe.  Most of all, I pray that You would be blessed, magnified, and glorified.  For You and You alone deserve all the praise, all the glory, all the honor, and we stand and declare, Father God that we love You with ALL of our hearts, ALL  of our souls, ALL  of our might, and with ALL of our strength. We bless You, Lord Jesus.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen & Amen

In Closing:
