“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” — (2 Timothy 3:16-17, NIV)
Good Morning & Happy Sunday Christlike Ministries NWA Family. It’s a joy to come to you this morning and be able to bring you a message from and about the Word of God. With all the messages surrounding the prosperity and greed gospels…I thought it would be a good time to take another look at God’s original plan for prosperity. It’s not much of a shock, but God’s thoughts on prosperity aren’t about financial growth…but spiritual growth…and so let’s get into today’s message and see what God’s plan for prosperity really is.
God’s Original Prosperity Plan:
There’s no shortage of messages about God and money these days are there? No matter what “Christian” program you watch they’re holding share-a-thons, or there’s someone telling you that God’s plan is for us to be rich like Abraham. Now listen, I don’t believe that God wants us to live in poverty struggling to make ends meet, but I don’t believe God’s plan is for us to be filthy rich either. Case in point is the man that built another barn to store his abundance of corn instead of keeping what He needed and giving the rest. Remember God called him a fool? I don’t know about anyone else, but when God calls someone a fool I want to pay attention to what that person did that got that response from God, Amen!?!
Listen. God’s financial plan is a lot better than the one our crazy and money hungry politicians try to sell. God’s financial plan is simple. You take what you get paid, give God 10% of that (which is a bargain considering 100% of it came from God…but He only asks for 10% back while giving you the other 90%…there’s no other system that works like that), use what you have left to take care of what you need, and then you are to be a blessing to others with your abundance. Now, I know this sounds an awful lot like what politicians try to sell (except for giving God His 10% part)…but the real reason churches used to accept tithes and offerings wasn’t so they could pay for all their dance and other kinds of crazy programs….it was so that they could help those in the community that weren’t as blessed financially.
Listen. In my opinion…there should never be a church with an empty food pantry. The church was the place that used to help the poor…NOT the government. Other than missions and preaching the Word of God…the rest of the money the church makes after they pay their bills and give God 10% of that income…it should be used to help the community. There should be less magic shows if there needs to be more money for the food pantry. There should be more money for people who have a hard time paying their bills or getting school supplies or whatever it is they need. That’s the churches responsibility NOT the government. How many of you know that it was never God’s plan for the government do what the church is supposed to do? We’re not to depend upon the government, but the church. How many of you know the church has gotten away from God’s plan to help those who are in need…yet there are people all the time who are turned away from churches. The church was always intended to help out the community, but since it’s decided not to do that…the government has created all these programs…and by the way…this money isn’t free…it’s being given at the cost of our religious rights and freedoms.
Gosh, friends, I don’t know why the message went this way, but I guess the Holy Ghost is tired of churches that spend money doing things that have nothing to do with helping people or advancing the Gospel. I mean that’s the job of the church, folks. If Christlike Ministries NWA actually was a church that had a building…I can tell you right now that whatever money that came into the ministry would first be used to pay our bills, there would be 10% that would be given back to God, and the rest would be used to support missionaries and community agencies that help the widowed, broken, poor, and the like. But not all those organizations are Christian. It’s not about the organization it’s about reaching and serving the people in our community. So, if there was an overflow we would be supporting organizations that support children, abused women, and other programs that help people in the community…the excess isn’t so Pastor Bryan can drive around in a brand new Cadillac…it’s so Pastor Bryan and Christlike Ministries NWA can help people in the community.
Remember what true religion is? If not then this is what true religion is:
“Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” — (James 1:27, NKJV)
True religion isn’t whatever congregation or denomination you belong to. True religion isn’t whether you are a pre-tribulation or post-tribulation, whether you are pro or anti rapture. True religion is helping the less fortunate. You see God’s business is for me to take care of preaching the word first, and then take care of the widowed and orphaned. My job is to be obedient and trust God to take care of my families needs (and even some of our wants), and God’s job is to take care of my families needs as I am obedient and trusting Him to do just that.
I guess this is turning into a message on money…and if that’s what the Lord wants that’s what it will be. I’m not one that likes to talk about this topic, but I’m not one to shy away from any topic the Holy Ghost wants me to write about…after all my job is to serve the Word of God. It’s God’s job to make sure it doesn’t return void. How many of you know that as a one income household (my wife’s income) that it’s pretty hard to make ends meet. I have been a stay at home day and focusing more on my ministry since December of last year. Believe it or not, there are costs to running this ministry. The Internet bill has to be paid so that I can keep posting these messages. I have to pay once a year to keep the www.christlikeministriesnwa.com Internet domain. I have to pay for office supplies. We haven’t had our printer working for months because we can’t afford to get the printer cartridge we need…because there isn’t much left after taking care of our families needs.
I have as of last check around 1,000 followers. Do you know that if every one of our followers were to give $5.00, $10.00 or $20.00 it would greatly help my ministry and family? I mean it really is simple math. At 1,000 plus followers if every one were to send $25.00 that would bless my family with $25,000.00 do you have any idea how much that would help my family? But, people think that all preachers want is their money. The reason preachers like me ask for money is because it will help us to be able to do a little more of what God wants me to do with this ministry.
There are a lot of things I’d like to be able to upgrade for the ministry. I’d like to not have to worry about where the money is going to come from so we can renew our domain name…but I’m already thinking about it. I’d like my family not to have to think about the Internet bill, I’d like to be able to mail out newsletters, I’d like to be able to upgrade the Christlike Ministries NWA site, I’d like to be able to give away Bibles and other things…but I can’t do those things because whenever a preacher talks about money we’re supposed to believe God will drop it out of the sky. It doesn’t work that way, friends. Sure, some times God will put an unexpected check in the mail or other financial miracles…but the main way God works for His people is through…well…people. The one thing I haven’t done is ask you guys to support this ministry financially, but in all honesty I need to learn to do that. This ministry is my job. It’s what I do…and like I just told you if every one of my 1,000 members would give just $5.00 it would radically help my family and ministry. That’s not begging it’s being honest.
I’d love to be able to help new believers that don’t have a Bible by giving them a Bible, and a devotional book to help them get started reading their Bibles…but I can’t do that because while the devotional is free buying and sending the Bible costs money. I’d love to be able to update and upgrade the Christlike Ministries NWA Blog, but it costs money to be able to do those things. There’s a lot of things I’d like to be able to do with the ministry that cost money. I’d like to be able to order my ordination and licensing packet from World Christianship Ministries so that I can be a legally licensed and ordained pastor…but that costs money too.
The point is that operating a ministry (even one that is 95% online) still costs money to operate, but I can promise you that this message won’t get one like and it will probably make a few people mad and even offended. It’s because they think that God is going to magically drop money out of the sky into my lap…friend…did you ever think that God’s idea of dropping money into my lap isn’t by dropping it out of the sky…but by working through the members of the Christlike Ministries NWA Family?
Can I tell you one last thing? Most preachers, if you’d ask them would rather not talk about money at all because we know what a sensitive subject it is. Investing in those who preach and teach the gospel is always going to have a two-fold blessing. One…it blesses the pastor (and the family) that receives the money, and two it blesses you because God sees that you’re faithful and willing to invest in the preaching of the Word of God. That’s why the Bible says give and it shall be given to you…and what will happen? You’ll prosper 30, 60, and 100 fold…if you want to have your finances blessed…start investing in those who are teaching and preaching the gospel…and watch the Lord bless you financially.
Well…I believe the flow for that part of the message has ended with that point right there. Friends, I’m at a place in this ministry where I need y’all to really consider helping us our financially. It really wouldn’t take a lot to make a difference. I know that all 1,000 member won’t help, but I sure could use your help so that I can do more to reach more and do more to advance the Kingdom and the Gospel. I don’t arrive at this message lightly, and I may have had a bit of an arguing match with God…but here I am trusting Him with the results of this message. This isn’t the end of the message. It’s going to run a little longer…because we need to get back to the main point before the Lord lead me down this road.
The original prosperity message was that we would prosper in spiritual maturity, and that comes by the teaching of the Word of God. In the New King James text of these verses we find out what the New International Version doesn’t say.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” — (2 Timothy 3:16-17, NKJV)
God’s plan for prosperity isn’t just about money, but it’s also about growing up in spiritual matters. That was God’s plan of prosperity.
Friends, please know that I take no pleasure in writing a message like this, and know that if it wasn’t necessary I wouldn’t write this kind of message at all. The fact that I was able to write a message like this backed by the anointing of the Holy Ghost is confirmation to me that it was both necessary and time to write a message like this asking our followers to consider investing financially into Christlike Ministries NWA. We don’t have the ability to do PayPal, but I do have a Walmart Money Card set up. It’s in my name, but it’s used for ministry purposes only. I’d be happy to provide proof at any time that shows where the money is going, and what it is being used to accomplish.
Have you been blessed by this ministry? Would you like to help me out?
Here are some really practical ways you can help me out.
1) Engage – I don’t always have time to reply to everyone but I read every single comment and post on here. I reply to every message and email and every one blesses me! Please do get involved and let me get to know you in the little ways we can online.
2) Share – If you love the posts here, or maybe an article on the website… please share it on Facebook or Twitter… it really helps new people find this ministry and be blessed by the good news of the gospel…and tell people about us.
3) Pray – We really value your prayers. Pray for this message to find good soil – that God would continue to bring new faces to this ministry that are ready to accept His embrace.
4) Give – Running a ministry is a lot like running a business. There’s always a cost, and if this ministry blesses you in any way…you can now help by giving to it financially. I’ve set up a ministry card that is used specifically for ministry needs & expenses. If you’d like to give to this ministry contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support. All of you who follow me are of great encouragement to me…and I’m grateful for all of you.
