Today’s Scripture: Psalm 103:10-12
10 He has not dealt with us after our sins nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great are His mercy and loving-kindness toward those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him.12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
I enjoy talking about reconciliation because it’s so easy to step on the toes of the religious who think that they’re going to heaven because they’re such good people or because they have worked so hard to maintain their salvation.
However, like we talked about in the last message. When we stand before the Lord…and He asks us why we’re worthy to enter into Heaven. There’s only one answer that will be sufficient…that answer is the only reason I’m worthy is because of Jesus.
So…let’s pray, and get into this message.
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the opportunity to write for You. I yield my fingers to You, and ask that You’d make my fingers as that as a pen of a ready writer. Writing ONLY as the oracles of You. I ask that You would supply my with the supernatural anointing that comes only from the Holy Ghost. I ask You to speak through me…and that You would use me as You see fit. I ask this in Jesus’ name…Amen & Amen.
Casting Crowns wrote a song about how far the east is from the west, and that it’s from one of Jesus’ scarred hand to the other. The basic point of the song is that there’s an endless distance between our sin and God…for those of us who are “whosoever’s that have called upon the name of the Lord.”
“10 He has not dealt with us after our sins nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great are His mercy and loving-kindness toward those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him.12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:10-12
Here we see again…just like we talked about Friday…that God has not dealt with us after our sins nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. It’s verses like these that mess with the religious mind because the truth is the religious mindset is one of pride.
Religion says “look at me, and how holy and blameless I am.”, but true Christianity says “it’s not about how holy and blameless I am, but it’s about what Jesus did for me.” See. Here’s the thing. Religion points to self…true Christians point to Christ.
Listen. The religious world wants you to think that the Holy Ghost is running around convicting the world of sin…and they’re right. If you’re of the world…the Holy Spirit is convicting the world that they need a Savior, and that they’re going to hell because they refuse to be a whosoever that calls upon the name of the Lord to be saved.
The Holy Ghost’s ministry is to point us to the Word of God, and to point us to Jesus. True Christians know that we’re not worthy of salvation based upon our merit, our good works or our good deeds. We know that only because of the Cross are we able to call upon the name of the Lord to be saved…and that has zero to do with us.
The facts are…we came into the world sinners. We were born under a death sentence because when we were born we were in Adam, and that’s why the new birth is so important. In the new birth we’re taken out from being in Adam, and we’re placed into being new creations IN CHRIST JESUS.
The religious world is fumbling for reasons and ways to discredit the Cross by saying that if we practice certain sins that we will sin our way out of Heaven. The problem with that is it wasn’t our sins that was keeping us out of Heaven to begin with…it was our refusal to call upon the name of the Lord to be saved. We were on our way to Hell until we confessed Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. THAT is what separates us from the world…Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior.
Like I said, the religious doesn’t like that because it doesn’t sound super-spiritual. It sounds much more spiritual to say that I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I don’t cuss, and I don’t hang out with people who do those things…and that’s where I get back to the religious mindset being one of pride…because it’s always focused on what “I” have done.
Let me tell you. I am not perfect, and I have not flawless. If anyone were to ask me what makes me so sure I’m going to Heaven…my ONLY answer is because Jesus paid my way. I have no reason to boast and beat my chest and say look at me, and how holy and spiritual I am. I am not going to Heaven because I write these messages, I’m not going to Heaven because I attend church, I’m not going to Heaven because I study and read my Bible, I’m not going to Heaven because I pray, I’m not going to Heaven because my grandmother prayed over me, I’m not going to Heaven because I have done such great and wonderful things in my life…I am going to Heaven solely and only because Jesus Christ died upon the Cross for my sin, and one day I heard the Gospel preached…and after the Gospel was preached to me I made a decision in my heart, and I confessed with my mouth that I believed what Jesus did on the Cross was for me…and I asked Him into my heart to be my Lord and Savior…and that and ONLY that is why I am going to Heaven.
I’m assured of my salvation because I didn’t do anything to earn it, and I cannot do anything to maintain it. Yes…there are things that have changed in my life because I’m putting off the old man, and I’m learning to put on Christ. However, when I fall short of the glory of God…and I do fall short of the glory of God…I’m told that when I do so if I confess my sin…He is faithful and just to cleanse me of all my unrighteousness…and the further truth is this…even I forget that God is not imputing my sins against me anymore…because He judged ALL of my sin at one time on the Cross.
Friends…when the Bible says that our sins are removed from us as far as the east from the west…that means that there is an immeasurable distance between our sin and God. He “remembers them no more”. Friend, it’s not because God gets amnesia, but it’s because there really isn’t anything for Him to remember…because our sin…ALL of our sin as believers is covered by the Blood of Jesus.
That’s why we may boldly say that we were once on the road to hell, but now we’re on the road to Heaven…because Jesus was the bridge that crossed that great divide.
The Blood of Jesus washed and cleansed us when we came to Him to ask Him to be our Lord and Savior, and that same blood that cleansed us then is still washing and cleansing us now.
OH…the Blood of Jesus…that washed me white as snow!
The things you’ve done in your past that keep coming back to you aren’t coming because they’re unforgiven…they’re coming because the devil doesn’t want you to know you’re worthy of entering the Kingdom. He’s the one that wants you to feel guilt and condemnation because he knows if he can get you to focus on your unworthiness…and the best thing as believers is that whenever satan gets to reminding you of your past…you have the authority to remind him of his future!
The Blood of Jesus has washed us, and it’s because of the blood our sins are removed as far as the east is from the west.
