“27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.” (Matthew 5:27-30)

This is one of those topics that’s really hard to talk about isn’t it, but I’m sure that we all know that sexual immorality is definitely toxic to our walk with God.

Pornography and the opportunity for lust is everywhere. Twenty years ago you had to make a big effort to get a hold of pornography. Now it can be accessed with the click of a mouse or the click of a TV remote. It is so easy to fall into the trap of masturbation, lust and sexual impurity. Does the Bible have anything to say about these topics? What are God’s thoughts about how to treat one another? The Bible doesn’t say much about masturbation, but it does provide some clear principles about sexual purity and lust. If you decide to make a change in this area, the best thing you can do is tell someone about your struggle. It makes it way easier to defeat.

This is one of those strongholds that is very difficult to break with your own will-power. I know because I once had a real struggle with pornography. Can we be real here? Seriously.

I think it’s time to drop the deliberately false impression or image? Can we stop pretending that sexual immorality isn’t a problem in the church.

Come on. The divorce rate is just as high inside the church as it is in the world, and one of the leading causes of divorce…in the church…is adultery.

Here’s the warning that Jesus gave that is missed by those of us who have engaged in being caught up with pornography. That whosoever looks on a woman (or a man) to lust after as committed adultery with her (or him) already in their heart.

Again. It’s not the actual physical act of masturbation, or watching pornography that’s the issue. The bigger issue is that this stuff gets into your heart, and we all know that what’s in your heart can defile you if we’re not careful what we put in it.

Look, I can admit my faults and mistakes here. I’m not so spiritual that I can’t tell you that I’m part of the statistics. I was married once already, I got hooked on pornography, and eventually that lead me to cheat on my wife at the time…and it lead to us getting a divorce.

This is a hard subject to broach, but we’re going to go through a 7 day series about sex…and in it I hope we are able to come to the understanding of what sexual immorality is, why it’s so damaging, how it’s toxic to our walk with God, and most importantly…how to be delivered from this area so that we can be more effective for the Kingdom.

Be assured there is hope, and there is deliverance. I hope you’ll continue to join us for this series.

I know this is short, but if you need help…just read the scriptures. The key scripture for today is verse 28…and know that we’re about to get into and at the heart of this issue…because I know that you want to be effective for the Kingdom…and so do I.

Blessings & Grace to you.
