“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
This is another one of those verses that we kinda know, but don’t fully understand. I had the privilege of having the opportunity to be ministered to last night by a powerful man of God…Evangelist Josh Radford.
He talked about this verse last night in the context of Abiding in the Word of God. He brought out some ideas that I used to do, but over the years for some reason or another I haven’t any longer. But the idea is not new to me, and something that I believe might be a good idea to resume.
Our faith grows by the amount of the Word of God that we are able to take in. One of the ways I used to take in so much more Bible than I do now is that I used to have it playing overnight. There was a radio station back where I was from that had a program called “music till dawn”, and in that program it was usually classical music, but it was church hymns, praise and worship songs, and there was also some Bible in it…but what I learned from that was if I had something biblical always on…it got into me.
Like Evangelist Radford said last night. Sometimes I would quote something, and have no idea or recollection of where I heard it. But I like the idea, and if Mrs. Kizer doesn’t take issue with it I would love to be able to download an audio version of the Bible to her iPod so that we can play it upstairs round the clock. All day everyday.
If faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God…it makes sense that the more time you spend being able to hear the Word of God then the more faith you’ll have. I believe that a desire for the Word of God is sorely lacking in the body of Christ today…and that’s why there are SO many Christians who have no foundations, no idea what they believe or why they believe what they believe, the can barely quote scripture, they certainly couldn’t tell you where anything is in the Bible, and they have no power, no authority, and no real faith in their lives for anything.
If the only way to please God is with faith…if salvation is obtained by grace through FAITH, and as we’ve discussed throughout this series…everything and anything in the Kingdom of God is accessed by faith…then wouldn’t it make sense to do everything we could to add, increase and strengthen our faith.
How is that done? By hearing the Word of God. The more Bible you read, the more Bible you hear, and the more Bible you get in you…the more faith you will have. It’s not possible to ever have too much Bible. It’s not possible to hear too much Bible or read too much Bible or hear too much Bible preached.
So, I don’t know about you, but I was really challenged last night to find more ways to get more Bible into me. We sleep an average of 6 to 8 hours a night. Imagine if you went to sleep listening to the Word of God…and woke up listening to the Word of God. How much Bible you’d be getting into your spirit.
So…maybe the next time a study comes up with Deuteronomy 3:6,8 I’ll understand what those two verses have to do with Discovering Hope Through Faith. Romans 10:17 wasn’t the scriptures for today…those two verses in Deuteronomy were…and I’m admitting to you that even I need to get more of the Bible in me because I’ve no idea what they have to do with faith other than the fact that they’re in the Bible.
So…I don’t know about you, but I am going to commit to hearing more of the word of God.
“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.” (1 Corinthians 16:23-24)
Blessing & Grace to you
