Goodness of God – Day 6 – (Jeremiah 29:11)

Jeremiah 29:11 AMP

Today we read that the Goodness of God is in His thoughts towards us.

“For I know the thoughts and plans I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.”

God has nothing but good planned for us, but that doesn’t necessarily mean everything in our lives are going to be good.  He has good thought, good plans, and that’s something that’s rarely spoken about.  Most tell you that God’s just, God’s loving, God’s forgiving, and they’ll kinda say things like “God is good all the time, and all the time God is good.”

But the simple truth is that God really is good ALL the time.  Not some times, not most times, not many times, not even often times…ALL the time.  Every day for the last 2,000  plus years God has been, is, and always will be good.

Everything about God is good because He IS good.  There’s no evil, no deceit, nothing unholy, nothing unrighteous, and nothing bad about God, with God…or in God.

If people understood this then He wouldn’t get the blame for infants dying prematurely, natural disasters, cancer, and the myriad of other things that usually come up when some one says…

“If God is so loving how can He allow people to go to hell, how can He allow this, how can He allow me to go through that, and before you think I’m being judgmental I’ve asked those questions too.

The difference is that I’ve come to understand, and be fully persuaded that God really is good.  He really does love us.  He really doesn’t do the bad things, He may allow them to come our way, but He isn’t the author of anything harmful, bad, or evil.

How do I know that?  Because the Bible says that there is no evil in Him.  He’s not man that He should lie.  There isn’t even a hint of anything that is unrighteous or unholy about God.  He is absolutely perfect, holy, righteous, and He is love.

If you read 1 Corinthians 13…it’s known as the “love chapter”, but really when you read verses 4 – 8 it’s talking about the God-kind of love.  Then you understand that God is love, and all of the characteristics of what the God kind of love is…and you realize that if He is love…then He can’t be anything opposite.

He cannot have hate because He would be divided within Himself.  He cannot be evil because He is good, and that would cause Him to be divided within Himself.  He cannot be unholy because He IS holy.  He can’t be unrighteous because He IS righteous.

So, the Goodness of God is available because God IS good, and the only way He can be or do is good.  Even when He’s angry…it’s still good.

This is one of my favorite scriptures in the Bible.  Jeremiah 29:11.  Because I learn in it that God thinks of me, and He has nothing but good things planned for me.  So when things get tough in my own life…sometimes this verse is a reminder that those tough times aren’t from Him.  He may allow them in my life to build character, but He didn’t cause them.

Romans 8:28 in the Amplified Version reads:  “We are assuredand know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.”

Another of my favorite verses because it promises that even though times may be tough, I may face adversity, and things may go bad at times…He will cause those things to work out for good.

God is good all the time…and all the time God is good.

“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.” (1 Corinthians 16:23-24)

Blessing & Grace to you
